The
Jump Start Program is a parental
training and enrichment program offered
in Grundy and Will counties. This free
program offers education and support
services to families until their child
enters kindergarten, usually age 5. Here
are the program components:
- Family home visits
- Group parent meetings and
trainings
- Parent-child interactive
activities
- Developmental screenings
- Links to community resources
Jump Start parents learn about the
importance of reading, singing, family
bonding, and other important elements of
early childhood development. They learn
about effective discipline and parenting
techniques, communication skills, and
stress management.
Many kinds of families are eligible
for Jump Start, including those headed
by teen parents, grandparents raising
grandchildren, parents with a low level
of literacy, families with a disabled
child or parent, families dealing with
chemical dependency, homeless and
transient families, and many others.
